The Video Platform Provides Viewers Authority to Reduce AI-Generated Videos in Timelines

Users will soon have a new feature that permits them to cut down on the quantity of AI-created videos appearing in their timelines. This step comes as the platform announced that it now features in excess of 1 thousand million content made with AI.

Trial and Implementation

The new functionality is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a global launch. This development comes amid a rise in AI-generated material, spurred by recent AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

Recent reports that nearly one in 10 of the fastest-growing video streams on a competing service exclusively feature content made by AI. A large amount of this material is considered mass-produced AI material, a phrase for inferior, mass-produced content that is frequently absurd or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that many people appreciate content produced via AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to informative clips, and we aim to provide users the power to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own preferences,” stated a company executive.

Scale of AI Content

The platform shared that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its service tagged as artificially created. In total, more than 100 m pieces of content are uploaded to the service each day, making AI-generated material a relatively small portion of its complete catalog.

User Control Features

Users will be able to decrease or raise the level of AI content they watch by opening the “manage topic” setting in the platform and picking the AI content topic. Other topics that can already be adjusted under the filter cover politics, style, cosmetics, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

TikTok’s policies oblige creators to identify convincing AI-made content, and it forbids dangerous fake videos of celebrities or emergencies. Any realistic AI-generated clip that is not labeled can be deleted under its terms of service.

Furthermore, the platform will now apply an artificially created label to content produced via its built-in AI features, or detected by an collaborative effort for recognizing content made by AI. This step is designed to stop users from attempting to circumvent the disclosure requirement.

Responsible AI Funding

TikTok is also launching a $2 million educational fund for professionals and organizations to develop educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will assist non-profit groups focused on educating programming and robotics.

Moderation Strategy

The platform has defended its moderation strategy, following debate over plans to cut jobs for a large number of content moderators in the UK. It is planning to cut a significant number of roles in its content moderation division in its British office, with trade unions and online safety experts expressing worry that people are being substituted by AI moderation.

A trust and safety lead stated that people-led review would remain essential, but AI can safeguard staff by eliminating the most distressing content before it is viewed by people. The platform stated a 76% decrease in disturbing and violent content seen by safety staff over the last 12 months due to the use of its automated systems.

It is vital to balance staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to minimize viewing of dangerous material as rapidly, which is why a lot of the machine support is making a difference process content quickly.”
